Refusal to attend school is often an indication that something more serious is going on. School avoidance may begin benignly but escalate to a complex problem rooted in severe anxiety. Parents are understandably concerned and want to do the right thing by their child but are also frustrated and stymied by their child’s behavior. They don’t know whether to push or let go.
The workshop will address the typical red flags of school refusal and how anxiety fuels school avoidance. Presenters, Danielle Nicholson, LCSW and Tracey Guard, LPC-R will highlight practical interventions and strategies for parents to manage this complicated problem. Both clinicians have many years of experience working with children and teens with school attendance issues in both private and public settings. They have considerable expertise in working collaboratively with schools and parents to successfully resolve school attendance issues.
