November 25, 2020Jennifer works with clients throughout the lifespan to promote a deeper understanding of self to heal past wounds and reduce problematic behaviors. Her theoretical background is deeply rooted in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and she has completed Level 1 training through the Internal Family Systems Institute. With this framework, she will also incorporate play therapy, person-centered therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques when appropriate. Just as varied are her clients’ ages, so are their reasons for seeking services. Jennifer works extensively with (but am not limited to) clients experiencing anxiety, depression, challenges with social skills, and difficulties with life transitions. This includes working with children and adults with ADHD and Autism. She is a staunch believer in a non-pathologizing view of neurodiversity. With this, she often also works with parents of neurodiverse children to promote understanding and harmony in the household.
Her educational background includes a BS in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, an MA in Psychology from Pace University, a PhD in Educational Psychology from The Graduate Center of City University of New York, and an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. Jennifer has been with In Step since March 2015 beginning in administration and management before moving into a clinical role as her education progressed. She is presently a Licensed Resident in Counseling under supervision with Afton Cordoba, LPC (therapy@aftoncordoba.com) and Mary Shuffleton, LPC (marshuff@verizon.net).
When not at In Step, Jennifer can be found playing with her own child and pets.
