December 25, 2018Jim Sebben is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He has been in private practice since 1986 and joined In Step in 1995. Jim’s goal is “to collaborate with clients to help them define their values, examine their emotions and set attainable goals that enrich their lives from both a social and emotional perspective. My work is rooted in my respect for my clients and my desire to help them reach their potential. I believe it often ‘takes a village’ to provide them with all the services they need to function as successful adults.” Jim currently enjoys working with adolescents, young adults, couples, and families. He has extensive experience working with clients diagnosed with ADHD and clients recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. He uses various treatment strategies depending on the needs of the client and coordinates clinical services with other professionals and schools. Jim is retired from Fairfax County Public Schools, where he worked as a Special Education Principal in both elementary and high schools for students identified as emotionally disturbed. He has been an Adjunct Faculty Member at George Mason University, University of Virginia, and Marymount University.
Jim Sebben earned his doctoral degree in Counselor Education at Boston University.
When not working at In Step, Jim can be found enjoying the company of his wife, children, and especially grandchildren. He also swims with the L4 Master’s Swim Team, enjoys the theater, cheers for the Washington Nationals, reads, and travels. He does volunteer work at the Smithsonian Institution and gardens from Spring through Fall.
