Are you a parent of a middle school or high school aged teen and find you are looking for a place where you can have questions answered and concerns be addressed and supported?
Join a new parent support group created for parents who need a safe place to share and support. In Step is starting a teen parent support group for parents with middle school and high school aged teens led by Mary Shuffleton, LPC, CGP, and Janene Pack, LMHC. Both Mary and Janene have had experience leading teen support groups, and have found that parents can benefit from the group process as well.
The group will focus on presenting teen and parent topics of concern such as:
- effective communication with your teen
- peer pressure
- developmentally appropriate teen behavior and when to be concerned
- dealing with anxiety within yourself and with your teen
- how to support teens with special needs
The group sessions will be structured around specific topics of concern, while also allowing unstructured time for personal questions and group discussion.
The group is a 16-week, on-going group and will meet Thursdays at 5:00pm. The cost is $95 per adult or set of co-parents. Full group participation is expected and encouraged, and there will be a maximum of two absences without being charged for the sessions. If you have any further questions or would like to sign up, please contact the Fairfax office at (703) 876-8480.
