Like it or not, as parents we are our children’s most influential role models. Our behavior is what they see as normal and what they mirror. Being a role model is a critical responsibility, and all of us forget from time to time that our children are watching and imitating our behavior every day. We are not perfect, nor will we ever be, but there are some ways to help your children learn good behavioral habits and in the process improve your role modeling skills.
Remember to take stock of your emotions and reactions. Don’t judge yourself for becoming upset with your child. Instead, pay attention to your feelings. Self-awareness increases your consciousness. When you are conscious, you are able to communicate more clearly and effectively.
